This is an exciting role within the newly established Justice Sector Directorate team, which works with six justice sector agencies to help drive and deliver transformation of the justice system.
We need creative and pro-active Chief Advisors to lead, support and develop the work that will lead to meaningful change.
**In this role you will**:
- Use your expertise and broad skillset to manage large and complex portfolios of work
- Help identify what needs to be done to support the sector to work together and do what it takes to make that happen
- Use your strong relationship skills to bring strategies, workstreams and people together to deliver outcomes
- Help identify smart ways to communicate across the sector and to decision-makers so that the right people understand the progress, risks and opportunities emerging.
You will play a key role in connecting agencies and sector partners to work collaboratively towards transforming the justice system.
He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience
You will work alongside the Executive Director and Deputy Director to lead and deliver the ambitious work programme of the Justice Sector Leadership Board, through the Sector Directorate and others across the sector. This position leads areas of focus for improving overall justice sector performance and prioritises actions that produce results.
**We are looking for people with**:
- A deep commitment to and evidence of putting the Treaty of Waitangi at the centre of decision-making and thorough knowledge of Crown-Māori relationships, particularly as they manifest in the Justice Sector
- Proven experience in working with Senior Managers in large, complex organisations
- Understanding of public sector systems and processes, including accountability requirements and the use of performance information to inform decision-making
- Proven experience in providing thought and people leadership
- Experience leading complex policy or projects to successful completion
- Experience working with a broad range of analytical frameworks and the ability to translate complex information
- Proven experience of supporting senior leaders such as Ministers and Chief Executives
- Ability to see and convey the big picture whilst also knowing the next steps needed to achieve long term change

The Justice Sector Directorate (the Directorate) works toward justice transformation through the sector. The Directorate provides strategic advice and support to the JSLB on sector strategy, performance, and investment. Supporting and working alongside justice sector agencies, the Directorate supports the development, delivery and performance of justice sector strategies and the effective utilisation of resources on behalf of the JSLB. The Directorate reports to the JSLB and also works closely with Ināia Tonu Nei.
The Directorate performs a range of functions, including strategic planning and performance monitoring for the justice sector; oversight and advice on sector investment decisions; leadership of the Justice Cluster and Proceeds of Crime Fund; and secretariat support to the JSLB.
The Justice Sector Leadership Board (JSLB) supports the collective efforts of the justice sector and binds the sector together in pursuit of a shared vision. The JSLB coordinates major change programmes and oversees planning to improve services, reduce harm and the number of people in the criminal justice system, maintain institutions and manage investment.
