We are seeking two analysts to join the Policy and Trade policy shop at MPI. You might be a graduate or have experience in policy and are looking to join a new team. You will need to be a skilled communicator capable of working with a range of people with different backgrounds, perspectives, and interests. You will enjoy working in a complex and ambiguous policy environment. Previous experience in the primary industries is not essential but would be useful. We are after your ability as an analyst and your interest in the environment in which our primary producers operate.

**For a Policy Analyst, we are looking for**:
- Excellent analytical skills
- Ability to form a view based on the evidence
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Someone who can give things a go, even when unsure
- Willingness to contribute positively to the team
- An understanding of legislative processes and the machinery of government
- The ability to bring a te ao Māori perspective.

Branch Capability and Regulatory Assurance
We enable the branch to achieve its potential by providing for policy capability development and stewardship of MPI's regulatory systems. We provide advice on regulatory stewardship (including, governance, monitoring and care of our regulatory systems). We also support the development of policy advisors and coordinate quality assurance systems, including the Cabinet Paper Committee and the Regulatory Impact Analysis Panel, which assists advisors to ensure their advice is the highest quality.

Good quality regulatory systems, and ensuring they are always fit-for-purpose, are important to MPI. It's also important to the wellbeing of New Zealanders. Regulatory stewardship aims to ensure that all the different parts of our regulatory systems work well together to achieve their goals, and to keep the systems fit for purpose over the long term.
**This role will**:
- Provide advice on regulatory stewardship (including, governance, monitoring and care of our regulatory systems).
- Offer advice and analysis to ensure that all the different parts of our regulatory systems work well together to achieve their goals, and to keep the system fit for purpose over the long term.
- Proactively work collaboratively to support regulatory systems to adapt to changing circumstances in a timely way.
- Support the provision of regulatory systems that are well-designed, well-understood, and well-operated.
Office of Rural Communities
The ORC Team is a dedicated and engaged group covers a broad range of policy work.
The Team supports rural communities to function well, operate effectively and thrive. We do this by delivering policy advice on a breadth of systemic issues facing New Zealand's rural communities and how government policies affect them. The role is broad-ranging and would suit a keen analyst who is interested in deepening their analytical policy skills in social and community related issues working across government agencies as well as the more technical issues that impact rural communities within MPI's primary sector mandate.
- Policy advice on the unique challenges rural communities face and the need for rural perspectives and experiences to be factored into development of policies that affect rural communities - this includes working across MPI on high impact areas including rural digital connectivity, the reforms of the health system, Three Waters, and rural transport issues.
- Ways to support the upskilling of policy professionals in rural proofing.
- Data and insight gaps where opportunities exist to support or undertake further research to better understand the needs of rural communities.
- Strategic opportunities to better support rural development and community resilience, considering international approaches to rural development and what New Zealand may be able to learn to better support our rural communities to be thriving, resilient and sustainable.
