Senior Analyst - International Trade Policy

The salary band for this role is $96,073 to $128,570

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
We are seeking a talented Senior Policy Analyst to join our team. There is significant variety in the work which can range from working with MPI's offshore posts to resolve a trade issue, engaging with domestic policy teams to provide trade policy advice, working with MFAT on a trade negotiation, and liaising with Māori partners and external stakeholders including industry.
Your portfolio will change over time according to team priorities and as you develop your expertise, but initial projects could include:

- Addressing emerging environmental related trade barriers through free trade negotiations. Engagement in the World Trade Organization and with New Zealand industry to address environmentally harmful agricultural subsidies.
- Progressing our Directorate's work and engagement on sustainability frameworks, like ecolabels.
- Focusing on our Directorate's international economic strategy and trade policy work including to support the growth and success of the Māori primary sector economy.

**Specifically, we are looking for a Senior Analyst who brings**:

- Trade policy or economic skills and/or experience.
- Strong analytical skills and is a clear thinker with a can-do approach.
- Excellent relationship management and ability to work collaboratively within MPI, across government, with stakeholders and in partnership with Māori.
- Great communication skills - in person and in writing.
- Highly organised and reliable.
- Knowledge of the primary sector.
- Sound judgement, integrity and discretion.

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team
The Trade Policy team provides trade policy and international economic expertise to support the productivity, sustainability and inclusivity of Aotearoa New Zealand's primary sectors. This includes negotiating and implementing free trade agreements along with work in international fora, especially the World Trade Organization, to address trade distorting subsidies. The team provides economic and trade policy advice on a wide range of international primary sector policies including trade strategy, e-commerce, environmentally harmful subsidies and animal welfare.
