The New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) is responsible for facilitating the legitimate movement of people and goods across the border, supporting trade, managing border risks, and collecting customs and excise revenue on behalf of the Crown.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Assurance Group as a Principal Advisor in either Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch.
The Assurance Group enables Customs to meet its strategic objectives through an assurance programme that uses statistical evidence to inform and refine targeting, provide a high degree of confidence across border activities, and improve compliance levels through greater understanding of non-compliance.
The salary band for this role is $103,275 to $131,597.

To be successful in this position you will need to demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

- Strong technical expertise and extensive experience in the use of data extraction tools and systems and providing comprehensive analysis to a range of audiences both internally and externally.
- Whilst not required, it would be advantageous to have an understanding of Customs data and systems to ensure the effective design, review and refinement of models and selection algorithms
- Experience in building and implementing new operating models, systems, and processes/project skills
- Strong problem solving and decision-making capability
- A genuine interest in and demonstrated understanding of data modelling. Assurance modelling would be an advantage
- A commitment to providing solutions to meet the needs of internal and external customers
- A proven track record in proactively building and sustaining strong relationships, including providing high quality advice and as required influencing internal and external customers
- Effectively and proactively manages own performance
- Able to explain statistical and technical information in a way that is easy for operational staff/lay people to understand.

Organisational security clearances are mandatory and are, conducted by Customs before job offers are, made. You are also required to pass a drug test.

You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
