**_ Mō te tīma/About our team_**
The University of Otago’s Māori Health Workforce Development Unit (MHWDU) is passionate about increasing the number of Māori in Aotearoa New Zealand’s health workforce. Our team deliver a range of recruitment, retention and achievement programmes that support current and future Māori students into and through Health Sciences study. The MHWDU sits within Kōhatu, Centre for Hauora Māori, Division of Health Sciences and all activity is underpinned by Māori values and frameworks.
The MHWDU prioritises the professional development of its staff and actively encourages and supports staff members to pursue professional development opportunities. **_ Te mahi/The role_**
As the Kaiārahi/Māori Student Coordinator you will be working on a range of programmes with a particular focus on the Tū Tauira Hauora programme. You will support the retention and achievement of Māori students in Health Sciences degree programmes by providing responsive academic and wellbeing support.
- The role will also support the delivery of other MHWDU programmes and teams activity where required. This position will include:
- coordinating various events and academic tutorials; and
- fostering whakawhanaungatanga with Māori students across health sciences degrees, relevant staff & community groups.
**_ Kā pūkeka me kā wheako/Your skills and experience_**
- You will also have:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A strong grasp of Microsoft Office software, e.g., Word and Excel.
- A full NZ driver’s license.
- A strong commitment to working in a kaupapa Māori team.
- The ability to work unsupervised.
- Some flexibility for after-hours work (agreed in advance).
- Proficiency in te reo Māori me ōnā tikanga is desired but not essential.

**_ Pūroko/Further details_**
This is a fixed term position for one year. This is a flexible role suited to a recent graduate, or someone who has experience working with young adults, seeking part-time (minimum 30 hours per week) to full-time employment.
Days and hours of work will be negotiated. Some after hours and weekend work will be required from time to time.
