An exciting opportunity is now available for a Maintenance Assistant to join the team at Selwyn Village. Selwyn Village is a 10.5 hectare retirement jewel next to Auckland's Waitemata Harbour, in the suburb of Point Chevalier. It has a rich history as one of the first retirement villages in New Zealand and currently has over 600 residents on site with on-going development of the site underway.
**_About the role: _**
Reporting to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for providing a preventative and reactive maintenance service to the Village; the assets, buildings, furnishings and equipment. This role also provides a repairs and maintenance service to some areas and aspects of the Village's facilities. The role includes carrying out the moving of some furniture and equipment in both independent living and the residential care facility.
**This is a full time, permanent role working Monday to Friday 0800-1700 = 40 hrs week **This role will require some weekend and ‘out of hours' evening work also so flexibility is essential.
**_Responsibilities will include: _**
- Participate in monthly inspections as instructed and identify issues requiring attention
- Attend to all maintenance requests, in a timely manner
- Maintain a schedule of reported/identified repair and maintenance work requests, keeping records as appropriate and as requested
- Attend to malfunctions to reinstate the operation of equipment by rebooting, disconnecting, halting operation etc. as required to maintain working status
- Maintain hazard-free grounds through collection and disposal of rubbish and unwanted materials
- Maintain pavements and roadways as planned with managers, ensuring a safe environment for everyone
- Work with manager to ensure appropriate disposal of hospital medical waste, rubbish and recyclables for contractor collection
You'll be methodical, show attention to detail, observant and have the knowledge necessary to ensure that everything you do is done to a high standard.
**To be successful in this role you will need to have**:

- A current driver's license
- Ideally a relevant trade qualification
- Previous working experience in a similar role
- Good Computer skills
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Maintain a first aid certificate
- physically fit, energetic and able to cope with the demands made of the role
