It is essential, therefore, that we are a privacy-savvy organisation, able to effectively and appropriately use and protect personal information. **About this role** The purpose of this position is to assist the Manager Information Sharing and Privacy to support Customs' information sharing and privacy activities with respect to the border and improve Customs' privacy maturity and practices in relation to the management of personal information. The Senior Privacy Advisor is expected to take ownership of key projects and lead them through to successful completion. They will need to exercise sound judgement, recognising when to seek wider or more senior input. They will also need to demonstrate strong interpersonal relationship skills in order to constructively and successfully navigate complex environments, balancing operational requirements alongside policy goals and legal obligations. **To be successful as our trusted Senior Privacy Advisor, you will have** - strong experience and expertise in privacy matters, including assisting with impact assessments, providing advice on complex privacy policy issues, investigating incidents and resolving complaints. - a good understanding of privacy policy development and common privacy practices. - a sound knowledge and understanding of the Privacy Act, Codes, and Human Rights Review Tribunal decisions. - the ability to build relationships and provide advice to all Customs' business units, the wider border sector and, where necessary, the wider public sector. - advanced problem solving and decision-making skills including good judgement and incisive thinking. - strong communication skills, including the ability to write clearly for a range of different audiences. - an ability to design and implement internal processes for managing limited classes of information. - the ability to obtain a National Security Clearance to "Confidential" level. - a law degree is preferred but not essential. - experience working in a regulatory environment is preferred but not essential. The indicative salary range for this role is between $94,000 - 124,000 per-annum prorated (dependent on relevant skills and experience). **Working for New Zealand Customs** To join Customs in any role you must be a **New Zealand citizen** or **New Zealand permanent resident** and be able to obtain and maintain an Organisational Security clearance along with being able to obtain and maintain security clearance to **'confidential'** level. **OR** Because of the nature of Customs' work you must have a clear Police record.
