We are looking for a Senior Privacy Advisor to join our waka and support this important mahi.
This is a fixed term role for 12 months. Because of the work we do, you need to have New Zealand Citizenship to be considered for this role.
Mōu | About You
As well as a broad understanding of all aspects of privacy principles, you will have:

- A strong understanding of the Privacy Act and how to implement it in an operational environment
- Sound critical thinking skills
- Very good communication skills
- Excellent relationship building skills

Mō te tūnga | About the Role
As a Senior Privacy Advisor, you will lead the charge to promote privacy and embed a privacy by design culture within Te Ara Manaaki so that we can retain the highest level of confidence in the Department's ability to safeguard the personal information it holds. You'll work across the privacy, security, and delivery teams to help redesign the authorising environment that underpins sharing our identity and life event information with agencies and organisations for Service Delivery and Operations.
Mōu mahi | Our Work
New Zealanders expect to be able to access government services seamlessly, irrespective of the specific agency providing the services. Te Ara Manaaki is a multi-year cabinet-approved programme responsible for transforming its system of service delivery for identity and life event services and products. Our work includes:
Passports and Citizenship
Civil Registration
Iwi Affiliation
Engagement with iwi is enabling us to learn about and understand the needs and expectations of different iwi in relation to DIA collecting, storing, and sharing iwi affiliation data. Information from this engagement forms an input into the design and implementation of the modernised civil registration system. This significant area of work is well under way.
