The Pou Ārahi Tikanga in Ātea a Rangi is responsible for providing expert advice and guidance that builds capability in te ao Māori. Your role is to support the Ministry of Justice in improving the cultural competence and confidence of our people. As part of the Te Ngira Kāpehu project, your focus will be supporting this transformational systems change project, with a particular focus on developing learning interventions to help business groups understand te ao Māori perspectives and worldviews and supporting kaimahi Māori in their journeys.
You will also contribute your expert advice in te ao Māori to the broader work of the business group, as needed. The work to build cultural capability happens across the Ministry, so you will work collaboratively with a wide range of kaimahi so that collectively we make progress. This role reports to the Pou Whakatere, Deputy Secretary Māori, and works alongside the other Pou Ārahi Tikanga and Pou Whirinaki Reo roles within Ātea a Rangi.
**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience**
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as Māori Studies or Te Reo Māori is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Te Reo Māori and practical knowledge and working experience with tikanga Māori is essential
- The ability to engage others including through careful listening and questioning
- Extensive experience in working with Māori groups and organisations
- Experience working with te reo and tikanga Māori in an organisational setting
- Experience in developing learning interventions using appropriate methodologies, and in delivering learning interventions using a range of multi-media approaches
- Wide and in-depth knowledge of tikanga Māori with you own iwi and able to liaise, consult and involve Māori suing iwi and hapū specific kawa
- A demonstrable understanding of tirohanga Māori and the Māori world view
- Strong relationship management skills
- Knowledge and experience of the aspirations and needs of Māori
- Experience in communicating with a wide range of audiences on a range of complex issues
- Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely (both in oral and written format) appropriate to the target audience
- Ability to contribute to an inclusive working environment where differences are acknowledged and respected
- An interest in justice system issues and knowledge of the justice sector would be an advantage but not essential
- Experience in managing, planning and reporting processes or participation in planning and reporting
- Experience in developing and monitoring quality assurance programmes
- Experience in strategic and business planning

**Utu ā-tau/**Salary**
The appointing salary for this role will be between $94,377 and $131,591 based on skills and experience.
