ABOUT UCSA:
Te Ropu Akonga o Te Whare Wananga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury Students’ Association Inc. (UCSA) is an organisation that supports akonga (students) at Te Whare Wananga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury to succeed and belong - akonga tu, akonga ora.
Founded in 1894, UCSA is a registered not-for-profit organisation with charity status. Led by an elected Komiti Whakahaere | Executive who represent akonga on close to 50 boards and committees, they advocate and serve towards their mission of student success and belonging, seeking to create the best possible student experience for those studying at the University of Canterbury. With 250 kaimahi (staff) working on their core operations, they dish up a range of student-focused services, including: advocacy and welfare; subsidised dental and optometry; early learning centres; club support (170 affiliated student clubs); events; media and even some great cafes and bars.
THE ROLE:
The Manahautu | Chief Executive’s role is dynamic in nature and alongside supporting advocacy and student voice, leads the running of operations which includes a range of commercial businesses. In leading, managing and promoting the Association, the Manahautu will be a talented leader who will not only provide strategic and operational leadership, but who will also bring energy and enthusiasm to a very special organisation that contributes, in a very real and tangible way, to the students at UC.
ABOUT YOU:
- Strategic and operational planning;
- Inspirational and strategic thinking;
- Representing an institution and projecting its profile;
- Management of finances and other resources, using their commercial acumen;
- Leading change and seeking opportunities for improvement and innovate approaches;
- Management and leadership of staff, with a collaborative style;
- Facilitation of entrepreneurial initiatives;
- Board and governance reporting skills;
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to integrate bicultural competence into the organisation;
- Focus on core mission and vision.
A social enterprise background would be an advantage. Strong relationship skills and personal attributes of adaptability and resilience will support your success.
