**_Te mahi/About the role_**

As the Technician - Department Operations, you will be responsible for the daily management, planning and co-ordination of building maintenance and project activities, and the support of diverse scientific equipment in the Department of Anatomy.

Key tasks of the role include:

- Providing expert technical knowledge in the maintenance and service of scientific instrumentation and equipment.
- Oversight of Departmental facilities and equipment, including the provision of training, user documents and Standard Operating Procedures for staff and students.
- Initiating on-line Property Services requests for all Departmental building maintenance and repairs, prioritising according to urgency and operating as the central point of contact between the Department and the Facilities Management and Trades Services teams.

**_Kā pūkeka me kā wheako/Your skills and experience_**
- NZCE, qualified electrician or equivalent (eg: EWRB Electrical Service Technician registration).
- Proven experience in maintaining and servicing electrical equipment.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to write clear, user friendly documentation for Departmental business purposes.
- The ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues.
- Proven experience learning new systems and processes quickly.
- The ability to make good decisions based on sound analysis, experience and good judgement.

Experience within a research and/or teaching environment and an ability to maintain complex scientific research equipment will be viewed favourably.

Anatomy has been taught at Otago since 1875. We are a multi-disciplinary research-intensive department. We have New Zealand’s only Bachelor’s degree in Anatomy and teach into the medical degree programme and 13 majors across the University.

Our 130 plus teaching, research and administrative staff come from all over the world and the Department's Body Bequest Programme is one of only a handful of bequest programmes still in existence anywhere in the world.
