**_The role/Te mahi_**
- The Laboratory and Aquatic Systems Technician will report to the Head of Department and assist laboratory users to set up and maintain aquatic systems (e.g., tanks, hoses, pumps, skimmers, lights, and loggers) for experimental and teaching purposes.
- Some locally based marine fieldwork may be offered.
- The position offers a stimulating environment that would suit someone experienced or interested in any aspect of Marine Science and/or the servicing and maintenance of scientific equipment.

**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- Tertiary Qualification (or working towards) in a science.
- Experience in the area of aquaculture or a related field would be an advantage.
- Alternatively, or additionally, have qualifications and/or experience in the servicing and repair of scientific and field equipment.
- Alternatively, or additionally, have some basic plumbing and carpentry skills.

**_About our team/Mō te tīma_**

This role is based at the Portobello Marine Laboratory, which is located on the beautiful Otago Peninsula, 22 km from Dunedin city centre. The Portobello Marine Lab lies in the middle of Otago Harbour, on the Portobello Peninsula. It was constructed atop an existing fish hatchery, to allow for state-of-the-art marine research.

We have dedicated residential research facilities in Otago Harbour, Stewart Island, and Fiordland. Our marine lab offers technical expertise, running seawater, and marine biological facilities for ecology, histology, sedimentology, microscopy, physiology, and biochemistry.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent position, located in Dunedin.

Because the laboratory is not on a direct public transport route having your own reliable private transport is recommended.
