The University of Otago, Christchurch is the base for medical and postgraduate health education and health research in Christchurch.

The Department of Medicine employs experts in a number of clinical specialities like Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine and others. The Respiratory Physiology Research group has attracted several clinical research contracts.

**_The role/Te mahi_**

In this role as a Research Assistant, you will co-ordinate approximately five clinical trials.

Key tasks include:

- Managing compliance in accordance with regulations and national standards.
- Train in the research techniques, protocols and database.
- Communicate with the Health and Disability Ethics Committees.
- Build relationships with the key personal of contracted studies.
- Process, store, retrieving and ship samples as required for the protocol.
- Managing the research databases including accurate and timely entry of data using electronic data capture systems (for example medidata RAVE or Inform Oracle).
- Managing study participants in key studies run by the Respiratory Physiology Research group.
- Undertaking training and obtain certification necessary to perform study specific tasks.

**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- Previous database experience.
- Precision and extreme accuracy in data handling and electronic data entry.
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and accurately follow protocols.
- Experience with Excel, EDC (e.g RAVCE or Inform) and Interactive Web Response systems would be an advantage.
- Confidence and awareness in dealing with people of differing cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Awareness of Good Clinical Practice standards for the conduct of clinical trials.

This is a fixed-term (12 month) position, which can be filled either full-time, or part-time. The position is located in Christchurch.
