Auckland City, New Zealand Financial Markets Authority Full time

**A great place to work. With great work to do.**

Ours is a meaningful and impactful role, as a kaitiaki (caretaker) of the financial services in Aotearoa. We oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders. Our role as a kaitiaki is brought to life by our values; Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls and Open Hearts, Open Minds.

**Te Tūranga | The role**

Join us as an Adviser within our Deposit Taking team, where you’ll help shape the way we regulate conduct in the banking and non-bank deposit-taking sectors. You’ll bring energy and expertise to assessing risks and entity performance, and building constructive relationships with market participants.

Your mahi will include but not be limited to:

- Supporting the development and delivery of core elements of the Conduct of Financial Institutions (CoFI) Programme of work, including:

- Participating in work to embed FMA’s approach to licensing, supervision, monitoring and stakeholder engagement
- Research and information assessment to feed into relevant risk assessments
- Sector and interagency engagement

- Supporting the team in developing a deeper understanding of banking and non-bank deposit taking in Aotearoa New Zealand, including further analysis of current and emerging risks in the sector

- Identifying harms and utilising appropriate regulatory tools to treat those harms and, where appropriate, refer to other internal teams to consider steps to enforce compliance with legislation

You’ll also contribute to delivering on FMA’s regulatory priorities which may involve reviewing entity responses to targeted reviews, providing feedback, and conducting on-site monitoring. This is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your understanding of the banking sector and see the meaningful impact of your mahi on consumer outcomes.

**He kōrero mōu | About you**

You’ll be naturally curious and confident, with the ability to ask direct questions and navigate challenging conversations with professionalism and tact. You will be someone who doesn’t take things at face value and really digs deep to understand the how and the why.

Ideally, you’ll bring experience from the banking sector, particularly in risk, audit, or compliance functions. You’ll understand how financial institutions operate and be comfortable assessing risk and influencing outcomes without formal authority.

We’re looking for someone who thrives on variety, is eager to learn, open to new experiences, and can balance analytical thinking with relationship-building skills.

**Ngā**painga | What we offer**

We offer some great benefits including a 4% KiwiSaver contribution, health and life insurance cover, paid leave over the Christmas period, a generous $1,500 refer a friend bonus as well as an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you. Additionally, we have exceptional learning and development opportunities including access to leadership development, technical training, and external coaching.

At the FMA we're committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. We offer a range of wellness and social activities designed to support our people with aspects of their personal and professional lives and genuinely connect with their colleagues.

**Me pēhea te tuku tono | How to apply**

**The appointing range for this role is $91,000-$105,000 (total remuneration including 4% KiwiSaver). Final offers will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity. Pay equity and parity are important to us as at the FMA, and we are committed to ensuring fairness and transparency throughout our recruitment process.**
