The Ministry for Regulation is looking to second experienced and capable regulatory policy professionals to work across a range of roles and projects while the Ministry is in stand-up phase. We are interested to hear from people at all levels, from people early in their career through to deep experts in regulatory policy.
Please note, we are not looking for people for management roles at this time.

**Initial work will include**:

- Supporting the policy and legislative process for the proposed Regulatory Standards Bill
- Providing advice on, and supporting the implementation of changes to, the broader Regulatory Management System
- Operation, and continuous improvement, of the Regulatory Impact Assessment system

We are a small Ministry working at pace. We need people who are committed to the kaupapa of improving regulatory quality and outcomes for New Zealanders, and who are willing to lend their expertise to the tasks required each day. Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate a systems thinking mindset, strong analytical and strategic thinking capability, strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to work to high standards on tight deadlines.

We are particularly interested in hearing from policy professionals who have at least one of the following:

- Experience working on the design or operation of the regulatory management system
- People with a strong understanding of how the institutions and agencies of government work together, and have previously provided related advice (public sector management)
- Applied economics including for assessing regulatory impact at both micro and macro levels
- Significant experience in designing and advising on the use of a range of regulatory approaches and implementing associated reform

**Checklist for prospective applicants**:

- At least 2 years' policy experience
- Able to demonstrate a systems thinking mindset, and strong analytical and strategic thinking capability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working to high standards on tight deadlines
- Ideally:

- previous experience in the regulatory management system; and/or
- previous experience advising on public sector management; and/or
- previous experience in applied economics to support regulatory policy analysis; and/or
- experience in designing and advising on the use of a range of regulatory approaches.
