The Ministry for Regulation is looking for an experienced senior regulator to join the team establishing sector reviews - starting with a regulatory review of the early childhood education sector.
At this stage we are looking for secondments from within the public service for between 3-6 months, while the Ministry is in stand-up phase.

**Initial work will include**:

- Setting up the first sector review into early childhood education
- Participating in interviews and meetings with regulated parties (owners and providers of early learning services) and with a range of regulating agencies
- Shaping how we engage with parents, teachers, and wider stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities to reduce compliance burden through good regulatory practice
- Partnering with regulatory agencies to improve their regulatory thinking and approaches

We are a small Ministry working at pace. We need people who are committed to the kaupapa of improving regulatory quality and outcomes for New Zealanders, and who are willing to lend their expertise to new or different sectors. You will need to roll your sleeves up and share the work in a small team of 4-8 people.

**Checklist for prospective applicants**:

- At least 2 years' experience in a senior regulatory or compliance role, including interacting directly with regulated parties
- Understanding how a range of compliance approaches can be used to drive improvements and achieve outcomes
- Ability to understand organisational strategies and objectives and translate them into operational policies and procedures
- Strong engagement and communication skills
- Experience working to high standards on tight deadlines
