About the Role
As our Employee Relations Manager, you'll be a key member of the People & Culture team, responsible for driving constructive employee relations strategies, leading collective bargaining (including with the Rail and Maritime Transport Union), and advising on complex employment matters. You'll partner with business leaders to support change initiatives, ensure compliance with employment law, and build a positive, high-performance culture across the organisation.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading negotiations for individual and collective employment agreements, ensuring alignment with legislation and our employee relations strategy.
- Building and maintaining trusted relationships with employees, managers, and union representatives.
- Providing expert advice on employment investigations, disciplinary processes, conflict resolution, grievances, and employment law compliance.
- Supporting and guiding organisational change programmes, including restructures and cultural transformation.
- Developing and reviewing HR policies and procedures to ensure consistency and legal compliance.
- Advising leaders on employee relations and change management, and representing the organisation in external forums as required.
- Proactively identifying and managing ER-related risks, and supporting internal audits or compliance reviews.
- Designing and delivering training to managers on ER topics and coaching leaders to strengthen people leadership capability.
**Requirements**:
- Proven experience in employee relations or industrial relations in a unionised environment.
- Strong understanding of New Zealand employment law and best practice HR processes.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and build relationships at all levels.
- Experience supporting organisational change and transformation initiatives.
- Confident communicator with excellent problem-solving and coaching skills.
