Te Rau Ora is a national centre dedicated to the health and wellbeing of people in Aotearoa. While we are unapologetically grounded in kaupapa Māori (Māori principles) and committed to the aspirations of whānau (families), hapū (sub-tribes), and iwi (tribes), our work welcomes and serves all communities across the motu (country).
Our mahi (work) spans Māori workforce development, mental health and addiction services, leadership training, and community-based innovation. Recognised nationally and internationally, Te Rau Ora is proud to lead pioneering work that uplifts Māori wellbeing while offering expertise, services, and solutions that can benefit everyone.
**About the Role**
Huarahi Ora is an interim service, national triage and bereavement support services for whānau and others affected by suspected suicide. As an Advisor, you'll serve as a vital link between regional partners, whānau, and national systems—ensuring timely, culturally grounded, and effective support is provided.
You'll oversee service quality across your region and help ensure a unified national approach that honours tikanga, promotes healing, and upholds mana.
You will:
- Liaise with Te Whatu Ora Postvention Coordinators and CPRS where contagion or complexity arises
- Ensure grief support aligns with Te Whare Tapa Whā and other culturally grounded frameworks
- Act as a connector between regional realities and national strategy
- Promote wellbeing and reduce vicarious trauma for staff and whānau
This position reports to the National Coordinator for daily operations, with overall oversight by the He Whare Wahine Manager.
**What You'll Bring**
- At least 3 years of experience in hauora Māori, mental health, suicide prevention/postvention, social services, or a related field
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. health, counselling, social work, Māori health, or equivalent)
- Deep understanding of tikanga Māori and experience engaging with whānau in culturally safe and meaningful ways
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across diverse teams and regions
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in health and wellbeing outcomes
