Nei ngā ringa e toro atu nei ki a koe Haeremai Our arms are extended to you in welcome
Are you passionate about empowering communities, building meaningful relationships, and supporting local initiatives that create real impact? We are looking for a Community Development Advisor to join our Partnerships & Programmes team and play a pivotal role in fostering vibrant, inclusive, and resilient communities.
About the Role
The Community Development Advisor will work alongside iwi, hapū, community organisations, and government partners to strengthen local networks, nurture collaboration, and enable community-led initiatives. You will facilitate strategic partnerships, support local planning, and help communities deliver projects and events that enhance social connection, wellbeing, and environmental sustainability.
In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with community groups, iwi, hapū, and key stakeholders. You will also support the development and delivery of community and locality plans, while leading and coordinating projects, programmes, and community-led initiatives. A key part of the role will be empowering groups with the tools, resources, and partnerships needed for success, and providing facilitation, leadership, and guidance to help communities problem-solve and navigate Council processes. You will contribute to community development strategies, policies, and reports, while engaging directly with residents and stakeholders to assess needs and continuously improve services.
About You
You will bring a combination of community development experience, facilitation skills, and a strong relationship-building approach. You thrive in collaborative environments and are comfortable working across diverse communities, including within Te Ao Māori settings.
To succeed in the role, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in community development, public administration, or a related field, along with proven experience in community development, engagement, or local government. You will be an excellent communicator and facilitator, confident in building and maintaining relationships, and highly skilled in planning and managing multiple projects. A good understanding of Te Ao Māori, along with the ability to integrate Māori perspectives and values into community development practice, will be an important strength. You will also bring political awareness, resilience, and sound judgement to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, as well as a commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing in all activities.
Experience in local government or the public sector, as well as knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, will be highly regarded.
What We Offer
This is a meaningful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of local communities while working in a dynamic and supportive environment. You will be part of a forward-thinking team committed to creating stronger, more connected communities across our rohe.
If you are a motivated, community-minded professional ready to bring strategic thinking, innovation, and collaboration to this role, we would love to hear from you.
