Te Puni Kōkiri is the government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with Māori. This includes our mandate to promote Māori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.

Our Waikato-Waiariki tīma is looking for a knowledgeable and passionate Kaitohutohu | Advisor. This role is permanent, full-time and based in Rotorua.

**Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity**

The Kaitohutohu role offers an opportunity to assist whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations and Māori communities to develop and implement initiatives that will improve long-term economic and social development.

This role involves fostering regional partnerships and collaborating with stakeholders across iwi, public, and private sectors. It includes supporting the development and management of funding proposals and investments. Additionally, the role requires contributing to regional work programmes by leading and providing policy advice on various project-related issues significant to Māori and the Government.

This team is led and supported by a dedicated team of kaiwhakahaere where kaimahi are encouraged to share ideas and upskill one another.

The likely appointment range is $76,213 - $84,860, based on skills and experience. The full grade for this role is $76,213 - $101,616 with a mid-point of $84,860.

**Mōu | About you**

To be successful in this role you will:

- Have experience in facilitating the establishment and consideration of investment opportunities (business or otherwise)
- Have experience advising on policy and a high level of understanding of the machinery of Government, public service and public sector processes that ensure the impartiality of Public Servants
- Have experience working with local iwi, hapū and whānau Māori
- Understand the Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and recognise the importance of the Treaty/Tiriti from both Māori and Crown perspectives
- A level of competency in te reo Māori, or a willingness to learn
- Clean full drivers licence
