The opportunity has arisen to work as a Libraries & Council Services Assistant in the Waitematā Local Board Libraries, based at Leys Institute Little Library. This will require you to be flexible as you may need to work from other sites within the local board area, such as Parnell and Grey Lynn Library.

Leys Institute Little Library is a small library serving a community of passionate readers. We are looking for a flexible all-rounder to join and contribute as part of a high-achieving, cohesive, and dynamic team. You will be supporting the team and contributing to the day-to-day running of the library. As this is a customer service role, you will be helping customers from all walks of life.

Our library is open Monday - Friday 9am - 6pm and Saturday 9am - 4pm.

The role:

- Permanent part time role
- 38 hours per week
- Libraries and Council Services Assistant (Band E)
- Tue - Sat (Tuesday at Parnell Library, and Thursday and Friday closing shift)

This is a particularly exciting time to join us, as you’ll be joining our team at Little Leys (our current temporary library space), during the final chapter of the restoration of the beloved Leys Institute Library and help welcome people back to Big Leys when we reopen in 2028.

You will have strong people skills, are flexible and adaptable to a library environment. You have a passion for customer service with a positive attitude towards serving people of all ages and backgrounds. You are eager to learn new skills and thrive in a busy work environment.

We are looking for someone who:

- Is digitally confident and skilled in social media. Understands and uses technology creatively and with confidence, able to support customers to successfully use information resources and devices.
- Has a strong people focused, and empathy driven work ethic. Along with a positive attitude, pride in their work and in the ability to influence others positively.
- Is reliable, adaptable and fosters great relationships with the team and our community.
- Demonstrates excellent written and communication skills with a strong people focus.
- Demonstrates an understanding of Te Ao Māori values and principles.
