Taranaki Regional Council is seeking an experienced RMA Policy Manager to lead our policy team and drive the development of resource management and biosecurity policies. This role is perfect for a strong leader with a deep understanding of the Resource Management Act (RMA), stakeholder engagement, and strategic policy development.

**About the Role**

As Policy Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Taranaki’s environmental and resource management policies. Reporting to the **Director - Resource Management**, you’ll be responsible for leading a high-performing team, working closely with iwi and key stakeholders, and ensuring that policies align with regional, national, and environmental priorities.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the Policy team (7 direct reports), fostering a culture of collaboration, high performance, and continuous improvement.
- Strategic Policy Development: Oversee the preparation, adoption, and review of regional plans and the Regional Policy Statement.
- Stakeholder & Iwi Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with iwi/hapū, local government, businesses, and community groups to create effective and inclusive policies.
- Resource Management Expertise: Provide expert advice on RMA policy, environmental planning, and biosecurity strategies.
- Business Partnering: Work across council teams to ensure policies align with TRC’s strategic goals and national legislative frameworks.
- Project Leadership: Drive key upcoming projects, including the new Land and Freshwater Plan and updates to the Regional Policy Statement in 2025.

**What We’re Looking For?**
- Proven leadership experience - ability to mentor, coach, and upskill a high-performing team.
- Extensive knowledge of the RMA and experience in policy development.
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification.
- Confidence in stakeholder engagement, particularly with iwi/hapū and government agencies.
- Strategic thinking - ability to turn complex issues into effective policies and strategies.
- High emotional intelligence (EQ) and intellectual capability (IQ) - strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
- Experience in business partnering - working across teams to align policy with strategic goals.
