He angitūtanga | About the role
As a Senior Governance Advisor, you'll lead and provide expert governance and performance advice across the Crown's conservation portfolio. Your role involves overseeing entity performance, advising on accountability documents like Statements of Intent and Annual Reports, and crafting ministerial letters of expectations.
You'll work closely with the Manager, guiding the team to deliver key work programmes and providing strategic insights. Your expertise will also shape strategies and ensure transparent governance through effective ministerial and parliamentary communications.

We're looking for someone with a strong grasp of the big picture, backed by analytical skills that enable effective advice to Ministers, Chief Executives, and Boards. You should be confident in developing concise, high-quality advice and engaging with senior decision-makers.
**Key attributes**:
- Proven experience in governance and performance advice, preferably within government or public sector.
- Strong understanding of statutory requirements and governance practices.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain diverse stakeholder relationships.
- Strong organisational skills for managing multiple tasks.
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
- Awareness of Mātauranga Māori and basic protocols.

The Public Affairs group is responsible for building and enhancing trust and confidence with New Zealanders and Parliament, while protecting and enhancing DOC's reputation and brand.

The salary range for this position is $92,450 to $116,985 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
