Korero mo te turanga | About the role

We're looking for a Senior Advisor - Governance who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. This role is pivotal in supporting our Board and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) with high-quality secretariat services, risk and assurance oversight, and strategic governance advice.

You'll play a key role in enabling informed decision-making across the agency, ensuring that our leadership and stakeholders are aligned, well-supported, and equipped to deliver on our mission of improving the wellbeing of New Zealanders through effective social investment.

This is a dynamic position where no two days are the same working at the intersection of governance, strategy, assurance, privacy, and procurement.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and manage Board and ELT secretariat functions, agendas, minutes, and logistics
  • Provide strategic governance advice to senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Support enterprise risk management, assurance planning, and internal audit processes
  • Build and maintain key relationships across the social sector and within government
  • Drive continuous improvement in governance processes and systems
  • Support agency compliance with privacy and procurement obligations

You're a confident communicator, a trusted advisor, and someone who thrives on clarity, structure, and purpose.

  • Previous experience in a governance or secretariat role, ideally in the public sector
  • Strong understanding of risk, assurance, and strategic decision-making frameworks
  • Proven ability to work with senior leaders and navigate politically sensitive environments
  • A collaborative mindset with a knack for building strong relationships
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to its principles
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. public policy, law, business, or similar)

Band 17: $ $ depending on skills & experience)
