**Mō tēnei tūranga - About the role**
As a member of the Region Leadership Team, the Auckland Strategic Advisor leads and manages the organisation’s engagement with key stakeholders and partners across the Auckland Districts (Waitemata, Auckland City and Counties Manukau) and develop strategic relationships. They are the primary point of contact for external organisations wishing to engage with Fire and Emergency NZ to coordinate relationships across the Te Hiku region (Auckland / Northland).
The Auckland Strategic Advisor has prime accountability for enhancing our region districts relationships, building alignments and developing a consistent understanding of the city’s key issues and risks.
As part of your duties, you will also:
- Lead and advocate for the implementation of the Te Hiku Engagement Framework and monitor and report on the Engagement Action Plan and engagement across the Region.
- Provide strategic and political advice to ensure the Region Manager and District Managers manage highly effective relationships with senior stakeholders across the public and emergency management sectors.
- Support Fire and Emergency’s submissions on local and central government proposed changes that have an impact on Fire and Emergency.
- Lead the key engagements on behalf of the three Auckland Districts at Auckland inter-agency, Territorial Local Authority, central and local government meetings, business and community forums and working groups across Auckland.
- Support the implementation of the Auckland Local Advisory Committee (LAC) by acting as a key conduit with the LAC and the Auckland District Managers.
- Co-lead the Community Risk Management Portfolio

You will ensure communities and partners are at the forefront of all your work with an exceptional customer service ethic and the drive to go the extra mile.
You will have a proven track record in building effective and lasting relationships at all levels and with external stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, ideally you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification (desired) in management, public policy, community development or equivalent experience.
- Experience working across local and central government at a senior level to achieve outcomes.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, sector partners and community organisations.
- Strong understanding of the socioeconomic, political, environment and cultural characteristics of greater Auckland.
- Understanding of the New Zealand emergency management system and processes.
- Excellent strategic mindset, problem solving capabilities and able to think holistically without losing attention to detail.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills to relate to a range of people at all levels including staff, clients, senior management, and peers.
- Demonstrated ability to represent the organisation in a range of settings.
- Good time management and the ability to advise what is possible within time constraints.
- Current driver licence.
