We are looking for someone who can represent The New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa across a range of interagency fora supporting engagement between the wider New Zealand National Security System and Customs' operational areas and business groups. New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa protects New Zealand's border using world-class tools, world-class people and innovative approaches.

The Intelligence, Investigations and Enforcement (II&E) Group's mission is to protect the integrity of New Zealand's border system. Within II&E sits the National Security & Emergency Management team whose primary aim is to support and represent Customs within the National Security System.

Focusing on translating strategic requirements into operational planning, identifying and acting on opportunities, and working across the business and external stakeholders you will play an integral part in ensuring that Customs actively contributes to, and benefits from, its involvement in the National Security System.

You will be part of a team that:

- ensures Customs has a highly effective readiness capability to respond to major incidents and emergencies
- coordinates the Customs strategic-level response to major incidents and emergencies of national security significance ensuring Customs' actions are fully coordinated, both across the organisation and with the AoG response
- coordinates Customs participation in All-of-Government efforts to enhance New Zealand's national security (including major event planning, readiness/preparedness exercises, providing advice on Security and Intelligence Board related matters)
- coordinates business continuity arrangements and Customs-wide lessons learnt registers.

**Salary**

The salary range for this role is $98,403 - $125,360, with $113,773 representing mid-point or proficient in the role.

**Ko wai koe | About you**

This role has a strong focus on stakeholder management including at a senior level. A proven track record of building and sustaining a range of strong relationships and providing a high quality service to customers and stakeholders, both internal and external, is essential. Your ability to build trust and credibility with those at a higher rank than yourself, and with non-government partners, is also critical.

Your ability to communicate effectively using a high standard of written and oral communication skills appropriate to a variety of audiences will be highly valued. In addition, you will have strong problem solving capability, including the ability to identify problems, manage or mitigate risks and implement solution based outcomes, including in high pressure situations.

Accompanying this, you will have experience in emergency management and All-of-Government Major Events planning. You will feel comfortable providing advice on national security matters to senior leadership and demonstrate a high level of understanding of the complexities of the national security system.

**Requirements to apply**

You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
