At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes. Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person, and adult student in our education system. We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.

About our group and team

Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga is a frontline group. Our frontline groups collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support, education advice, regulation and network functions for schools and early learning services. If you value variety and challenge in your work, have a passion for improving educational achievement for all students/children, particularly Māori and Pasifika, and are committed to building collaborative relationships and finding new ways to do things differently, this could be the role for you.

As a Senior Education Advisor, you will work directly with our tumuaki, senior school leaders, Kāhui Ako - Communities of Learning, and Boards of Trustees on strengthening educational performance in schools and kura. You will ensure that sector leaders and the communities in which they operate have access to the expertise, programmes and resources that will allow our children and young people to reach their full potential. You will be working as part of the Ministry of Education's regional team, using evidence and data, and designing and implementing projects with schools to strengthen educational performance.

- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively across a diverse range of settings
- A solutions and values-based approach

that will enable you to
- Build trusting relationships and work confidently and effectively with schools, kura, iwi, rūnanga and other stakeholders
- Understand the barriers to engagement and find solutions

Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga is committed to being confident and capable in taking effective Tiriti honouring and racial equity actions in our work for and with Māori students, their whānau, hapū and iwi.
