Senior Legal Counsel

**The Role**
We are on the lookout for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic in-house legal team This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced senior lawyer who wants to take the next step in their career. You’ll be provided with ongoing opportunities to impact the business and drive your career forward. This role can be based at our Dunsandel manufacturing site or our Christchurch city office.
This is a vital role in our business where you will support, partner and influence our business, providing legal advice, covering a broad spectrum of high value corporate commercial matters including our banking and finance arrangements, corporate governance and listing rule compliance, customer and supplier contracts and working with our panel of top tier external law firms. You will have exposure to international business transactions and a wide range of general practice areas.
The main responsibilities of this role include.
- Identifying and mitigating legal risk to the business including supporting the business to implement appropriate risk mitigation frameworks or measures arising from new business or projects.
- Negotiating and discussing terms and conditions with suppliers and customers, resolving issues and responding to queries including complex contracts and agreements, letters, correspondence and advice notes.
- You will be undertaking legal research, training and advising on a wide range of legal matters as required as well as assisting with reporting, matter progress lists, maintaining registers and developing and maintaining templates.
- Working collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders to create and manage cross-organisational integrated strategies.
- You will promote and encourage building effective cross-functional relationships.
- Develop and maintain effective global relationships with key external stakeholders, industry contacts, and agencies.
Your strong commercial legal knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills will be the key to your success in building strong relationships across all levels of the organisation.
**Skills and Experience**
To be considered for this role will require
- Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
- A practical, commercially-minded view with a sharp mind and a proven track record of drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Can clearly and concisely explain legal matters to both colleagues and senior leadership.
You will hold a practicing legal certificate and you will ideally have 8 plus years in a similar role for a well-respected legal practice or other in-house role.
