Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Details of the role:
Full time role 42.5 hours per week, worked Monday to Friday 08.00 am to 5.00 pm. Based in central Queenstown.
Purpose of the role:
To provide a high quality of mechanical repairs, fault diagnostics and servicing. To work as part of the team to ensure that Alpine Auto maintains its reputation for friendly and reliable service.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and parts.
- Discussing problems with car drivers or vehicle operators to discover faults.
- Interrogating engine management systems for fault codes.
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts.
- Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components, and referring to service manuals as needed.
- Performing scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations.
- Reassembling engines and parts after being repaired.
- Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance.
- Testing and repairing electrical systems such as lighting, instrumentation, ignition and electronic fuel injection.
- Diagnosing and testing parts with the assistance of computers.
- Carrying out minor body and trim repairs.
- Using oxy, electric, TIG and MIG welders.
- Responding to vehicle breakdown service calls.
- Providing friendly and professional customer service.
- Occasionally dealing with telephone enquiries from customers and suppliers.
- Other reasonable requests necessary for the smooth running of the business.
