A role at the Council isn't just a job, it's an opportunity to make things happen in the city you're dedicated to. We are looking for a Waste Management Advisor on a two year fixed term contract.

**About the role**:
The Resource Recovery Team is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for both minimisation of the city's solid waste and disposal of the residual waste. As a Waste Minimisation Advisor your focus is to educate our customers on the importance of minimising what goes into landfill thus diverting waste from landfill and helping to reduce the environmental impact of waste. You will help our community to understand the benefits of waste minimisation and how it can be implemented in an effective, safe, and sustainable manner. Some responsibilities of the role include:

- Providing education to public, contractors, and colleagues
- Managing public and business understanding and compliance with the Waste Management Bylaw and solid waste disposal methods
- Acting as the public face of the Resource Recovery team in dealing with customer complaints
- Following up on reports of contamination and requests for information
- Auditing, monitoring, reporting on and raising concerns in areas of accountability
- This role also involves some work out in the community, working with collection contractors to audit the contents of household wheelie bins.

**About you**:
You will come from a background in customer service, and perhaps you have worked in a similar role in the past. Ultimately, the key to your success will be your passion for waste minimisation and your enthusiasm for educating the community on why this has such a profound effect on not just the individual and our city, but our world as a global resource. You will be comfortable interacting with members of the public to positively promote the importance of waste minimisation. You will be confident dealing with difficult customers, so the ability to deal with conflict and resolve issues will come naturally to you. Ideally you will also have:

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in similar role
- Proven communication skills and interaction with the public/business resulting in enforcement where necessary
- Experience with, or interest in, principles of waste minimisation
