**Senior Geospatial Developer**
**Type**: Fixed Term (24 Months)
**Location**:Wellington
Are you a skilled Geospatial Developer ready to contribute to New Zealand's emergency management capabilities? Join our team to make a real difference in national resilience and readiness.
**Ko wai mātou | About us**
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership to New Zealand's distributed emergency management system. NEMA's primary focus is on the performance and capability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery.
NEMA values diversity and inclusion. We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of our communities. We value and respect the contributions of our people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills and perspectives. We support flexible ways of working that bring out the best in you.
We are committed to doing our part to deliver on the Crown's commitments to Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We strive to actively build te Ao Māori perspectives and capability into our day to day work, values and practices.
**Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role**
As the Senior Geospatial Developer, you will lead NEMA's technical efforts in geospatial technology, managing and developing geospatial systems to support emergency management. Your responsibilities will include administering and enhancing NEMA's ArcGIS platform, performing data analytics, and providing technical advice to stakeholders across various sectors. You will play a key role in ensuring the accessibility and usability of geospatial data, enhancing our capacity to make informed, data-driven decisions during emergencies.
This role sits within the National Operations Unit, which is responsible for the operational systems, infrastructure, and readiness of New Zealand's emergency management system. Your contribution will be pivotal in supporting our readiness and response efforts.
As NEMA is an operational agency, there may be a requirement to respond to emergency activations in the event of a national emergency response. This may include potentially long hours and challenging working conditions, e.g. an emergency could occur at any time of the day or night and may require working shifts and/or working weekends**.** NEMA provides thorough training prior to you being required to assist in a response. NEMA will do all in its power to support staff in meeting their work and family responsibilities during an emergency. The welfare and wellbeing of our staff is of upmost importance.
Your response role will be in the intelligence function. While supporting the intelligence function as a primary role, NEMA encourages and supports professional growth across other areas of the CIMS structure.
***
**Due to the nature of our role in Emergency Management, NEMA has a very dynamic work environment and as a small agency, staff are often required to pivot and change focus on their work at short notice. Attributes of adaptability, agility, resilience and curiosity are all required on a daily basis, in and out of times of emergency response.**
**Ko wai koe | About you**
- Strong technical skills in ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and database management with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience in software testing, quality assurance, and managing REST APIs, particularly with ESRI services.
- An understanding of data protection, data governance, and the ability to maintain technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills, able to clearly present complex technical issues to a range of audiences.
**Huanga Whaiaro | Key requirements**
- Advanced technical expertise in geospatial technology, particularly with the ESRI ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online), database management, and backend web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, NodeJS).
- Ability to execute complex data management and analytics tasks, including data protection, governance, and metadata maintenance, tailored to meet the needs of emergency response and management.
- Effective communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring geospatial insights are actionable and well-utilised.
- Resilience and agility in a dynamic work environment, with a capacity to quickly adapt to changing priorities, especially during emergency responses.
- Desirable: Experience working within the emergency management sector, with an understanding of its unique operational demands and the ability to contribute to an emergency management context.
**Ta matou e tuku | What we offer**
We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and understand the importance of fostering a working environment where excellence is recognised and where staff are encouraged to develop their own talents and potential. We welcome diversity, in all its forms and we believe it is a strength.
NEMA values staff health, safe
