We have an exciting opportunity to carry out alcohol and smokefree regulatory responsibilities as a Compliance Officer at Health New Zealand National Public Health Service Hawke’s Bay - Te Matau a Māui. This role ensures effective enforcement of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990 and is based within the Health Protection Team.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

- Enforcing the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990 from queries and complaints through to prosecution.
- Building and maintaining agency networks to support collaborative working

**About you | He kōrero mōu**

Given the importance of this role, you will be someone who:

- Is passionate about protecting people in Hawke’s Bay - Te Matau a Māui from the harms associated from alcohol and tobacco.
- Is committed to achieving health equity and improving outcomes for people in Hawke’s Bay - Te Matau a Māui
- Has an eye for detail, the ability to translate legislation into practice and have accurate investigation, assessment and reporting skills.
- Ideally has a minimum of three or more years’ experience in regulatory work for local or central government. You may also have a legal/environmental health/health promotion or other relevant discipline. Transferable skills from areas such as debt collection or customer service could also be relevant.
- An undergraduate or post graduate qualification within an appropriate discipline or progress towards completion would be an advantage.
- Have a full New Zealand driver’s licence

The position is permanent and due to the nature of work will require some flexibility. We take an active role in ongoing training and competency development of our team members.
