Te Awamutu, New Zealand Thames-Coromandel District Council Full time

The Waipā District Council has a reputation as the 'Home of Champions' it's no wonder we are recognised as a key location for future growth and investment. And with that growth comes more dogs

Our community spirit is no different to Waipā District Council's working environment. We work hard to ensure that we have the best people working with us and pride ourselves on our friendly and supportive work environment.

As an Animal Control Officer, no two days are ever the same Each day will present new challenges that are both rewarding and satisfying. For us a pro-active and problem-solving approach to animal control matters is vital, along with a passion for achieving good outcomes for all.

A large part of our day is spent on the road and away from the office working in the community. A non-judgemental approach towards others is a must, as is honesty and integrity. Exceptional customer service and communication skills are imperative as well as the ability to resolve conflict and build rapport. A reasonable level of physical fitness is also required.

Working with animals requires empathy, sensitivity and respect. A good knowledge of animal husbandry and behaviour is needed so that sound advice is given to owners, and to ensure impounded animals are cared for to a high standard. Although our primary focus is on reuniting impounded animals with their owners, on occasion euthanasia will be required.

As well as working in the field managing operational animal control issues, there is a strong administrative component to this role. Therefore, your record keeping, written communications and follow up data entry needs to be efficient, accurate and up to date. For serious dog matters you will also be required to compile detailed investigation reports, with recommendations, for the Team Leader. An ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and software is essential. Existing skills with Microsoft Office would be a bonus.

Team means everything to us and we are looking for someone with a cheerful personality and emotional intelligence who will contribute to a positive team environment. We will expect our new team member to be calm, approachable, helpful, open minded, obliging, fun, self-motivated, adaptable, resilient, solutions focussed, and most of all flexible If you are healthy and well, passionate and enthusiastic towards your work with loads of initiative and always keen to lend a hand, you will be a great fit

If this sounds like an opportunity you would like to pursue, contact us today.
