**Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role**

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Regulatory team as a Compliance Officer focused on Contaminated Land. This is a permanent full-time position which can be based in one of our offices located in Whakatane, Rotorua, or Tauranga.

In this role, you will work closely with the Project Officer (Contaminated Land), to ensure that the contaminated land function is managed well across our entire region. Your responsibilities will include:

- Undertaking technical reviews of contaminated land reports, analysing laboratory data, and providing comment to internal and external stakeholders.
- Raising public and industry awareness of council roles and responsibilities by providing specialist and up-to-date advice on contaminated land and pollution prevention.
- Taking an active role in updating the Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s Selected Land Use Sites register.
- Regularly carry out field work and site inspections which may include hazardous sites in remote locations.
- Building and maintaining excellent relationships with staff within Council and with external stakeholders.

**Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience**

The skills and personal attributes we are looking for include:

- A relevant bachelor’s degree (e.g., Earth Science or Science) with at least 3 years + post-qualification experience involving contaminated land or resource management related activities.
- A relevant post-graduate accreditation or certificate, e.g., Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP), would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of the Hazardous Activity and Industry List (HAIL), Resource Management Act, National Environmental Standards and other national legislation and guidelines affecting contaminated land.
- Experience in writing and reviewing contaminated land reports and analysing scientific laboratory data.
- A current full New Zealand driver’s licence.
