Transpower is the commercially focused and regulated State-Owned Enterprise that owns and operates the National Grid. At the very heart of the energy sector, we transport electricity from where it is generated to large electricity users and the distribution companies who deliver it to homes and businesses nationwide.

**About the team**
Within our ICT Division, our Telecommunication Services Team provides cross-functional support across all levels of Service Delivery ranging from Incident and Problem Management, Change Management through to Project Support and Deployment.
The team is responsible for the design and deployment of Transpower's outside telecommunications infrastructure and secondary inside plant supporting our telecommunication equipment (referred to collectively to as Telecommunications plant). Telecommunications plant includes fibre optic cables, MOFDFs, ancillary fibre equipment, access tracks, submarine cable, radio equipment and towers, power supplies, batteries, and cabinets.
The refresh of the TransGO network (Transpower network to support Grid Operations) is a strategic multi-year programme of work which has an expected spend of $100m+ and provides the opportunity to align the network with latest technology and practices.
**About the opportunity**
As part of a team, you'll play a key role in the continued deployment and maintenance of Transpower's Telecommunications network (TransGo). The network allows Transpower to protect, monitor and control our primary Grid assets, run the wholesale electricity market, and meet our regulatory obligations or function as a corporate entity.
This level of criticality, and the specialised power utility services delivered over the network, differentiates it from other networks in New Zealand and requires attention to detail to ensure critical services continue to be available throughout the network refresh.
Business-as-usual mahi includes Outside Plant Design and Maintenance including fibre cable infrastructure design and delivery. You'll be on the road and in the field 3-5 days per month, and:
- Facilitate radio design in association with our Engineering Consultants
- Provide proactive maintenance and problem management of all telecommunications plant
- Coordinate major fault repairs
- Access track and site maintenance as required
Inside Plant Design and Maintenance includes fibre cable infrastructure design and delivery within Transpower buildings and external cabinets, and design and delivery of inside plant to support Transpower's Telecommunication network including equipment and Fibre cabinets and associated infrastructure. You'll also work on:
- Power supplies and batteries
- Proactive maintenance and problem management of all telecommunications plant
- The coordination of major fault repairs
**About you**
You'll have a L3 Trade Qualification in Telecommunications and a background in Telecommunications plant and equipment.
Outstanding at identifying information material to a decision, you calmly work though ambiguity, resistance and/or competing business priorities at pace.
**Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate**:
- Understanding of 48VDC systems
- Understanding of fibre optic transmission systems
- The ability to work with vendors using your commercial/contractual understanding, including statement of works, of the obligations required from each party to deliver value and great outcomes
- A clean, full New Zealand drivers licence
While not essential, it would be helpful if you have:
- An understanding of Radio systems, construction and roading experience relevant to telecommunication installation and maintenance
- Electrical industry (trades, distribution or transmission) communications experience and project management skills/ experience in addition to the required technical expertise
