**About the role**
As our Principal Dam Safety Engineer, you'll be a technical leader responsible for the strategic management of Mercury's Dam Safety Assurance Programme and the integrity of our civil infrastructure. You'll work across disciplines and teams to ensure our dams, spillways, tunnels, and associated structures meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance.
**What you'll be doing**
- Leading Mercury's Dam Safety Assurance Programme, including mentoring and training others.
- Conducting dam safety inspections and condition assessments.
- Maintaining and updating Emergency Action Plans and surveillance manuals.
- Overseeing technical assessments, upgrades, and rehabilitation projects.
- Providing expert guidance during emergencies or extreme weather events.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
- Supporting lifecycle planning and asset management for civil infrastructure.
**What you'll bring**
- A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or similar); CPEng preferred.
- 15+ years of relevant experience in civil/geotechnical engineering.
- Strong background in seismic hazard assessment, structural design, and compliance.
- Deep understanding of dam safety regulations and asset management.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work across all levels of the business.
- A structured, analytical approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
