**About Welfare and Oranga Tamariki**

Our Welfare and Oranga Tamariki team is one of the functions of Public Sector Performance group at the Treasury.

Our work provides exposure to a wide range of policy issues and the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of government and how government expenditure delivers value for New Zealanders. Through its advice to the Minister of Finance and other Ministers, and its work with other agencies, our team shapes and influences policy spanning the social welfare, disability, child care and protection and social investment systems, as well as advising on the Crown response to the Royal Commission on Abuse in Care.

**Korero mo te turanga | About the Role**

We are looking for an analyst to work on some of the biggest social policy challenges facing Aotearoa - New Zealand. This is a job that makes a real difference to people's lives, especially when they are most in need of support, and would require you to get your head around complex social and fiscal policy issues.

You will be responsible for engaging with one or more of the agencies we work with, as well as developing insights into the effectiveness of Government spending. You will have extensive opportunities to learn about and contribute to public finance processes - for example, you will likely have a role in assessing Budget bids and advising on Ministerial priorities.

**O pumanawa | About You**
- At least 2 years policy experience (preferably in a government agency)
- Experience in working collaboratively to influence and develop policy solutions
- Some familiarity with financial information and/or data analysis as part of policy development
- A critical thinker who is able to ask good questions, think through issues with analytical rigour, and who can see things from a range of perspectives
- An excellent communicator with a track record on writing for a range of audiences
- Comfortable working at pace and dealing with ambiguity.
