Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
The Animal Welfare Policy Team support Ministers, other parts of MPI, and stakeholders to understand and improve animal welfare outcomes in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our stakeholders come from all areas of life from the farming community to animal advocacy organisations who provide us with a diversity of views and priorities.
The work is focused on the Animal Welfare Act, Codes of Welfare, and associated regulations. We are looking for someone who wants to grow their skills in regulatory development and stakeholder management, often balancing divergent values and expectations.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are looking for a senior policy analyst to join our team. For this role, you will need to be a great communicator capable of working with a range of people with different backgrounds, perspectives and interests. Strong creative problem-solving skills will be necessary, and experience managing stakeholder relationships an advantage.
Previous experience in the primary industries is not essential, although may be useful for the role. Your ability as an analyst and your interest in the animal welfare environment are what we are most interested in.
- Experience as a central government policy analyst, or in a relevant working environment
- Strong analytical skills
- Familiarity with the development of regulations
- Experience bringing stakeholders together in agreement - familiarity with Te Tiriti O Waitangi issues or experience working with iwi would be advantageous

As we work collaboratively with other policy teams, you may be offered the opportunity to join project teams outside of animal welfare policy as part of your role.
