Tēnei tūranga - About the role
Verification and Compliance (V&C) sits within Immigration New Zealand prevents and responds to immigration related offending and non-compliance. We develop and provide products and services that support quality decisions throughout the organisation, ensuring that risk is managed at the earliest point in the immigration process.

As a Compliance Officer you will undertake a regulatory role, promoting compliance with New Zealand immigration law and policies. Your role will form part of a multidisciplinary team, where you will work alongside peers and management to achieve optimum results in the compliance and criminal offending space.

The scope of this role will see you involved in a diverse range of compliance activities, including interdicting persons who have overstayed in New Zealand or who have breached their visa conditions; investigating and managing individuals and employers who have breached immigration legislation. This role will also have a particular focus on Migrant Exploitation.

You will be provided with training and delegated powers to undertake these activities giving you powers of entry, search and detention.

Some of the work involves outdoor activity so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

In such a varied role, you will need strong investigative skills to locate those liable for deportation, good organisational skills with an ability to prioritise effectively and multi task so that you effectively manage the deportation process and legislative requirements.

You will also need strong decision making skills, experience in managing sensitive issues and risk and ideally knowledge of immigration law and policies.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and the ability to talk to people from a variety of different cultures in sometimes very tense situations.

The ability to juggle multiple/varied tasks and to manage time effectively is vital to the Compliance Officer role. You may be required to travel away at short notice within New Zealand, so flexibility is required.

In addition to the above, People with these skills and experience are encouraged to apply:

- Experience undertaking investigations and / or working in an enforcement-compliance setting.

All applicants must possess New Zealand citizenship or hold a permanent residence class visa.
