Corrections' Media Team is looking for a new Communications Adviser. Our team is responsible for engaging with journalists and media outlets, responding to media queries, managing filming and interview requests, supporting senior leaders through events and issues, and managing Corrections' social media channels.
Ngā kawenga | About the role
In the role of Communications Adviser, you will support Corrections' media engagement by providing communications knowledge, support and advice. This includes being the initial point of contact for journalists, assisting with the management of media queries, and monitoring social media channels.
**Key accountabilities include but are not limited to**:

- Act as the key entry point for media queries into the Department through monitoring the media inbox and answering the media phone, and ensuring all queries are logged and managed.
- Research and write responses to media queries.
- Identify good news stories and prepare social media posts, media releases and pitches to media.
- Provide an after-hours media and social media service as required by the on-call roster.

This role is based at National Office in Wellington, with the need to be based on site for the majority of the week. This is due to the reactive nature of the role and level of stakeholder support often required at short notice. There is an on-call element to the role, which can be discussed at interview stage.

To be successful in the role of Communications Adviser you will need the following, with additional skills and experience requirements detailed in the attached job description:

- Strong writing and proofreading skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Talent for recognising communications opportunities and good judgement in identifying and raising issues.
- Ability to research and write for media and other purposes.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The midpoint of the salary range is $84,594 and the full range (85%-120%) is $71,905 - $101,513. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
