Auckland City, New Zealand Transpower Full time

Transpower is the owner and operator of the National Grid. At the heart of the electricity sector, we transport high voltage electricity from where it is generated to large electricity users and the distribution businesses that deliver it to homes and businesses nationwide.

**About the team**

The System Planning team, within Grid Development, delivers the Transmission Planning Report, major capex projects, regional development plans, enhancement and development projects, and customer projects for Transpower.

Currently, the team is working on several major capital projects and regional plans to increase transmission capacity into Auckland, Waikato, Canterbury, Nelson, and Queenstown. The team also works on new connections projects to integrate generation and load connections seamlessly into the power system.

**About the opportunity**

Based in Wellington or Auckland, you'll work across the organisation, including with the System Operator and our customers, to identify system needs. You'll lead power system analysis and create system development plans to ensure the transmission system can meet future electrification needs.

You'll also lead studies for customer connection projects, ensuring that connections meet Code obligations and Transpower's technical requirements.

There's a lot of exciting big-picture work in the pipeline for you to get involved in. You'll use your power system modelling and problem-solving skills to develop solutions enabling electrification in New Zealand. You'll be exposed to diverse challenges and provide thought leadership on future power system issues, like the integration of offshore wind or new mega AI training data centres.

**Who you'll be working with**

Using your strong communication and interpersonal skills, you'll work with teams across the organisation. Key collaborators include the Commercial and Modelling group, Tactical Engineering group, investigations project managers, customer relationship managers and the System Operator. You'll also engage with engineering consultants, service providers, industry working groups, committees and regulatory bodies.

**About you**

You're agile and inquisitive, with a proven ability to lead complex work and collaborate effectively across a broad range of teams.

You bring:

- Knowledge of power system development and operation
- Strong analytical skills to tackle complex problems and develop solutions
- Ability to provide technical advice suitable for management and wider audiences
- Experience of power system modelling and analysis software, e.g. DIgSILENT PowerFactory
- Experience in power system studies such as load flow analysis, short circuit analysis and time domain simulations

Knowledge in the following areas would be an advantage:

- New Zealand electricity industry experience
- Understanding of the Electricity Industry Participation Code (EIPC)
- Awareness of Transpower's regulatory requirements under the Commerce Act
- Economic assessments for investment options
- Knowledge of protection systems and SCADA assets
- Python Scripting

**Join us at Transpower**

Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here. Every home, every marae, every electric vehicle, every hospital relies on the electricity we manage and deliver. This is your opportunity to join us on a mission that affects all New Zealanders, the planet, and the economy.

**Next steps**

**Role closes Sunday 29 September. **Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and you may be contacted prior to the closing date to facilitate shortlisting.
