**The Organisation**
The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future. With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front-facing community to support and technical specialists.
**The Role / Person**
Our small but mighty Animal Control team is looking for an individual passionate about the safety of our community, compliance, and animals
Your challenge will be working within the Dog Control Act 1996 and Council policies and procedures to respond to public complaints about dog and stock control and providing proactive patrolling.
This role will see you work across the Timaru District to ensure public safety is maintained and the community is educated. You will provide essential services such as following up on unbarking dog complaints, and dog attacks and raising public awareness of responsible dog ownership.
You will also be able to assess animal behavior (dog and stock) and make effective decisions regarding any action to be taken. This role suits individuals with public-facing compliance backgrounds, who demonstrate strong customer service and conflict management, and de-escalation skills.
