**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Analyst to join the Regions Sectors Business and Economic Development team at the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE).

The Regions Sectors Business and Economic Development team is responsible for data, analytics, research, evaluation and monitoring across 7 of MBIE’s 16 regulatory systems. The team has a strong focus on producing the evidence base for policy for energy, resources, and climate change with regular statistical and data releases, energy sector modelling, research, and insights from evaluation. Other markets that are supported with monitoring and evaluation include the consumer, commercial, competition, financial markets, and communications systems. Current issues include energy sector trends and climate implications, supporting the Emissions Reduction Plan, energy sector modelling as New Zealand transitions to a low emissions economy, and market competition.

As a Principal Analyst you will lead and shape a research and analytical work programme that provides strategic modelling, analysis, research, and evaluation work to support the development of evidence-based policy and regulation within the energy, resources, and climate change programmes. You will work closely with policy teams to develop a strategic view of research and information needs over the medium to long-term. As an expert and a thought leader, you will bring new ideas, techniques and knowledge to research and policy discussions and influence the direction of policy.

We are keen to hear from you if you have (several of the following):

- An in-depth knowledge of research and analytical disciplines and processes, including latest developments in techniques and practices
- Experience in successfully leading large and complex projects, taking into account both strategic and short-term needs
- Experience in economics, resources, climate change or related disciplines
- Excellent communication and coaching skills to embed a culture of excellence in the Branch
- Demonstrated experience in influencing policy makers and other stakeholders
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand
