**About the Organization**:
The Canterbury Refugee Resettlement and Resources Centre was founded in Christchurch as in 2006. The Centre was established to provide a forum for former refugee and migrant groups, with a remit to advance a development agenda that was consistent with refugee and migrants priorities.
**About the Role**:
We are seeking for an Activity Coordinator to join our small team. You will have experience working with communities from diverse background and you must have excellent organizational skills. You are a strong team player with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and can demonstrate initiative. Diplomatic and discreet in approach, you should be able to manage a demanding workload. You will need to be able to work to deadlines and respond to changes quickly.
The successful applicant is able to recognise the needs of all people, including Mori, Pacific, ethnic and culturally and linguistically diverse communities and all other communities, to have services provided in a way that is consistent with their social, economic, political, cultural, and spiritual values. The position will also be required to have great knowledge about refugee and migrant resettlement and cultural diversity in New Zealand, knowledge about Charities Services compliance, knowledge about UNHCR, 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol, International Bill of Human Rights.
**Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)**:
- Preparing Terms of Reference, including budget, for activities and events
- Preparing reports and other relevant paperwork to document accordingly and submit to funders
- Coordinating activities and events in the organization, as well as those in collaboration with other institutions, such as:
- Workshop(s) on Medication Management, Parenting, Orientation on NZ Law and Citizens rights, Policing and so on
- Event(s): Matariki Celebration, World Refugee Day, Annual Gala Day at the Hub, and so on
- Women and youth groups activities
- Community class(es) and gathering(s): sewing group, socialization for elderly people and
other community-related events
- Facilitate other periodical and/or one-off group and individual activities
- Setting up and breaking down activities and events
- Working with other staff and volunteers to ensure smooth operations of activities and events
- Assessing the needs and interests of the organization and the communities, and plan activities accordingly
- Supporting individual and families who are experiencing hardship with access to services
- Networking with a range of providers in the community to respond to peoples unique needs (including attending any network and development meetings to raise awareness of the service)
- Updating data on the Client Management System (CMS)
- Any other professional and work-related duties as may reasonably be required
**Skills and experience**:
- Excellent communication skills (i.e. teamwork mindset, good listener, confidence and friendliness, etc)
- Wide network with diverse ethnic communities in Canterbury
- Experience in preparing terms of reference, budget and activity report
- Empathetic and non-judgemental behaviour to all cultures
- Commitment to professionalism
- Good leadership skills (i.e. having initiative, working independently, problem-solving oriented, etc)
- Experience in social work in an ethnic community setting, and/or relevant work experience
- In-depth knowledge of refugee and migrant communities and the relevant community services
- NZ full clean licence, and able to pass reference checks, Ministry of Justice and Police check
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner
