Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangarei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers. We also provide contracting services to our partners - other network owners and operators across the North Island.
- We have over 1,300 staff working together across 13 locations to keep the power on and the lights going for our customers.
- Our Network team in Whangarei is on the lookout for an experienced Network Controller to join them and oversee the day-to-day operation of our electricity distribution network.**The role**
Reporting to the Network Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for monitoring the status of the network, responding to and resolving unplanned events on the network, manage planned and unplanned switching, preparing operating instructions and facilitating procedures and processes that will enable staff, customers and contractors to safely carryout works near or on our network.. You will also:
- Monitor the network, including voltage/load control and monitoring the status of network access
- Ensuring the network is operated within design parameters
- Carry out site inspections (audits) and accurately record findings
- Coordinate safe access to the network ensuring the safety of employees, contractors and the public at all times
- Manage faults response, planned and unplanned network outages including the expeditious restoration of supply to customers
- Contribute to the preparation of accurate switching instructions while minimising customer outages
You will be working closely with the broader Network Operations and Engineering teams using the newly implemented GE PowerOn Fusion ADMS to analyse and interpret network data.**What’s in it for you?**

Coming from the electricity sector in the NZ Distribution Networks, you’ll bring your practical and process-driven approach to this role.
- We're looking for an individual who can demonstrate the following:
- Electrical registration or tertiary qualification in Electrical, Power Engineer or similar
- Proficient in using Microsoft office Suite
- Proven ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Demonstrable background in control room operations and the use of SCADA systems (preferred)
