Biosecurity Plant Pathogens Unit Lead

**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
- Lead the development, delivery, and project management of Plant Pathogen (Kauri Dieback) biosecurity programmes, including planning, reporting, and procurement.
- Promote and support community, Council, and national agency initiatives aimed at managing Kauri Protection and pathway biosecurity and other pest threats.
- Provide technical input into Plant Pathogens (Kauri Dieback) and pathogen pathway biosecurity i.e. Kauri protection, planning, and support to the relations between Tiakina Kauri (MPI), Northland, Auckland, Waikato, and Bay of Plenty Regional Councils, & Department of Conservation.
**Mō te tangata | About you**
- Your excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and project management experience will add value to our team, through the implementation of an agile Kauri protection programme to reduce the spread of Kauri dieback disease in the Waikato Region.
**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
- A tertiary qualification or bachelor’s degree in applied science or biology (conservation based) and/or 5+ years in related field of work.
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in central or local government, operational management, or biosecurity role. (e.g., biodiversity restoration, pest management)
- Strong project management experience managing complex biosecurity programmes and other initiatives.
- Sound technical knowledge and understanding of ecological processes and pest management technologies.
- Experience working with rural communities, iwi and other key stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
- Ability to deliver in a difficult physical working environment with a high level of time pressure.
- Be able to stay away overnight for work from time to time.
- Full NZ drivers’ licence.
**Mō te tīma | About the team**
- Your team has 3 fixed-term staff that are responsible for primarily working with landowners to stock proof kauri forests, to promote kauri hygiene behaviours, and to create kauri protection plans.
- Support and partner with community groups across the Waikato Kauri lands. To build capability to protect kauri and provide funding support for hygiene initiatives.
- The marketing lead, reporting to you, is responsible for delivering the kauri teams marketing initiatives. Including pulling together the virtual reality marketing project.
