Provide advice to develop national climate change policy, ensuring housing and urban development in Aotearoa both helps to reduce emissions & adapt to the impacts of a changing climate. Mō te tūnga | About the role The Planning and Infrastructure Team focuses on national level settings that have an impact on housing and urban development outcomes. The team works on several cross-government reform programmes of work to improve outcomes in our urban areas. This includes contributing to the resource management reforms, urban development and infrastructure, and New Zealand's response to climate change (influencing policies that focus on a move to low-emission, low carbon and more resilient homes, towns and cities. As an Advisor you will support work and contribute to projects, working across HUD, with other agencies and with stakeholders to undertake analysis on cross-cutting, complex issues; advising Ministers on interventions needed to achieve system level changes; and influencing others across the system to help realise change. All our work involves system thinking, strategic policy, inter-agency relationship, legislative design etc. The available role will initially be focused on some of our climate change related work (although advisors are likely to work quite broadly to maximise their experience). A key part of the role in relation to climate change will be providing advice to develop national climate change policy to ensure housing and urban development in Aotearoa both helps to reduce emissions and is able to adapt to the impacts of a changing climate. Much of this work involves working via inter-agency processes. It could include co-leading parts of the Emissions Reduction Plan and National Adaptation Plan, providing input to inter-agency work to develop the Climate Adaptation Act, developing advice for HUD's senior managers and the Minister, and identifying opportunities for Aotearoa's climate change work to support HUD's broader outcomes for housing and urban development. The salary range for this role is $71,100 - $86,900 + 3% Kiwisaver contribution. Our Policy Advisors work on stimulating tasks and projects while being provided with strong support networks and development opportunities. You will work with other policy professionals to analyse complex and challenging problems and find solutions that make a real difference in people's lives. You will work to deliver policy solutions and have the opportunity to present these to senior colleagues and Ministers. What you'll bring to the role:

- Experience supporting complex policy projects, including on system wide issues.
- Ability to engage effectively with delivery agencies, stakeholders and other government agencies.
