The purpose of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group is to work in partnership with the rest of the organisation to provide digital technology and communications solutions that support excellence in policing and service delivery and enable Police's strategic ambitions.

With a primary hub in Wellington, and a presence throughout the country, we deliver new and enhanced solutions directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. We provide expert advice on how technology can be leveraged to support Police's strategies and turn concepts into reality through collaborative development.

The Technical Product Owner is a key member of a product development team. They are responsible for managing the product backlog and overseeing the development of products from start to finish to ensure they meet the customers' needs and priority. They determine the overall vision of their product(s), in accordance with the customers' future needs.

You will join our platforms group and work across our wider networks and infrastructure team to unlock our technology ambitions and lead an integrated approach to delivering hybrid hosting environments at Police.

We seek someone with strong experience in integrated hybrid technology environments at both leadership and engineering levels. You will bring strong technical capability to lead our modernisation efforts bringing new ideas to our ways of working and take pride in growing the capability of people around you.

The technologies that you will provide to your customers as Technical Product Owner, Core Platforms include:
- Container/Kubernetes compute (Openshift)
- Cloud Infrastructure Public/Private (Azure, AWS, CCL)
- Virtualisation platforms (Vmware OpenShift Virtualisation)
- Platform enabled DevOps engineering support
- Automation, orchestration and platform tooling

The Core Platforms team are responsible for all foundational infrastructure platforms that run many critical Police systems. You will lead a diverse engineering resource with a strong focus on modernisation and through this enable our wider ICT teams to deliver value faster. Our platforms are constantly evolving, and we are currently investing in a significant step change. We seek someone who can drive the vision to deliver reliable, resilient, observable, secure and cost-effective outcomes to the business.

If you are someone who has proven ability to mentor technical teams, drive new technology and infuse new ways of working then this role is for you. You will be comfortable leading a range of technical engineering resources spanning Infrastructure, DevOps, and Site Reliability engineers. This is a chance to make your mark in an area that is on a modernisation journey.

The Technical Product Owner will track key performance indicators for their products to measure the success, including user engagement and customer satisfaction, identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions about future product development. They manage the delivery of maintenance/sustainment, break/fix and enhancements. This usually occurs through a flow to work team assigned from the Centres of Expertise, or through vendors. Where roles exist that specialise in a single product, these may be direct reports.

The Technical Product Owner provides day-to-day delivery leadership to the product team, including the tasking of responsibilities and feedback to Practice Leads on the delivery performance of people within their product team. They also provide advice and feedback to Practice Managers to support the ongoing development of the required technical capability and capacity to meet customer demand.
