**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
The Business Specialist role plays a key role in supporting Business & Consumer branch achieve its vision of creating a place where businesses and consumers thrive. As a service delivery focused branch which has grown significantly over the last two years, we have entrenched our products and services through impactful products and channels that reach 100,000s of businesses and consumers every week.
With a broad range of delivery capability, the branch offers a unique opportunity to work across all aspects of business and consumer wants and needs, where ultimately you have the ability to make real change.
The branch’s ambition is to continue to amplify our impact by further leveraging our products and services across MBIE and wider government.
The role of Business Specialist supports the branch by acting as a strategic flex resource, supporting the leadership team and key initiatives across the branch.
Reporting to the Director, Business and Consumer, the Business Specialists will form part of a collaborative and multi-disciplined talented Business Advisory team. If you have a ‘let’s gets things done’ work ethos and your ‘tool kit’ is full of multiple approaches to find a way forward, then this may be the role for you.

- A high level of experience working in a strategic role and a proven track record in leading large work programmes, balancing strategic and operational needs.
- Sound judgement, integrity and discretion, particularly around strategic risk management.
- Is comfortable working in an ambiguous and flexible environment, reporting through a matrix model.
- Strong writing skills, in particular skilled at drafting accurate and succinct correspondence and reports.
- Understands how to work with different organisational cultures.
- In-depth knowledge of processes at the centre of government as well as wider governmental processes and protocols.
- Makes quality decisions by using analytically sound, well-rounded, informed, and inclusive approaches.
- Strong stakeholder engagement / management skills.
- Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships, including with senior managers.
- Ability to develop capability of colleagues, including managers, through coaching and mentoring.
- A tertiary degree in a relevant field is highly desirable.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
