The purpose of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group is to work in partnership with the rest of the organisation to provide digital technology and communications solutions that support excellence in policing and service delivery and enable Police’s strategic ambitions.
With a primary hub in Wellington, and a presence throughout the country, we deliver new and enhanced solutions directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. We provide expert advice on how technology can be leveraged to support Police’s strategies and turn concepts into reality through collaborative development.
The Practice Lead - ICT Projects and Programmes is a member of the wider ICT Centres of Expertise Group, specifically in the ICT Projects and Programme Management Practice. This Practice provides the delivery of programme and project management services and functions across ICT. Delivery of these services is attained through a combination of in
- house and outsourced contracts, strong external relationships, and an ability to create and implement fit for purpose processes and practices that achieve the right balance between speed to market, cost, quality and scope.
The Practice Lead will lead and manage a team of Project Managers. They are responsible for supporting the Practice Manager to lead and build Centre of Expertise teams; continuously improve centre of expertise frameworks, standards, processes and toolsets; and aligning and integrating with other Centres of Expertise teams.
The Practice Lead operates as the primary people leader for those members of the Centre of Expertise, providing pastoral care, technical capability development, performance feedback, mentoring team members, overseeing their workloads, and ensuring that they are meeting the delivery requirements within their product teams.
They will work in partnership with Product Managers and Product Owners, as well as Programme Managers, ensuring they are being provided with both the capacity and capability they require to meet the requirements of their product roadmaps.
They will support the Practice Manager - ICT Projects and Programmes in ensuring the tools and ways of working of the Centre of Expertise remain current and fit-for-purpose for New Zealand Police.

Key Accountabilities
- Leads, mentors, and monitors the performance of the team, ensuring appropriate career development and training opportunities are available.
- Assigns appropriate resource with sufficient expertise to meet the business requirements in respect to project management.
- Ensures the Project and Programme Management Practice continues to evolve to follow industry best practice.
- Ensures continuous service improvement to ICT project management processes and services to increase efficiency and cost effectiveness.
